| INTERHEALTH CANADA LIMITED NOMINATED AS PREFERRED BIDDER TO BUILD HOSPITALS IN TCI |
|
(Grand Turk: August 24, 2006)….Interhealth Canada Limited, an innovative healthcare company based in Toronto and specialising in the fully integrated design, construction, equipment and operation of general and specialist hospital facilities, has taken another significant step in its international development.
Building on its history of successful work in the Middle East and its recent participation in the UK’s Independent Sector Treatment Centre programme for the NHS, where it has successfully commissioned, and is currently operating an orthopaedic hospital at Runcorn in West Cheshire, Interhealth Canada has now been nominated as preferred bidder for the construction and operation of two medical facilities for the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands in the British West Indies.
The award, following an international competition between several European and North American healthcare providers, illustrates the attractiveness of the Canadian company’s integrated approach to countries wishing to develop modern and well-managed healthcare systems.
Under the proposed agreement with this UK Overseas Territory, Interhealth will construct the two facilities, having an initial capacity of 20 beds on the island of Grand Turk, and 40 beds on the island of Providenciales and ensure their operation for a period of 25 years.
Ground breaking on the construction is anticipated at the end of September 2006 and the facilities are expected to be commissioned for effective operation in the second half of 2008.
Interhealth Canada will be using the services of the UK architectural practice, Devereux Architects, in the development of its design concept. Construction will be carried out by local construction company Johnston International with the UK’s Rotary International providing specialist services and public health engineering installations.
The funding solution for the project is being provided by Barclays Bank through its local subsidiary First Caribbean Bank, and Jordan International Bank through its UK subsidiary.
