(Grand Turk: August 14, 2006)….Her Excellency Wynns made history here in the Turks & Caicos when she was sworn in as the country’s first Deputy Governor on August 9th, 2006.
H.E. Wynns’ appointment to the post of Deputy Governor comes with the introduction of the Turks & Caicos Islands Constitution Order 2006, which came into effect on August 9th, 2006.
According to Section 22 (1) of the new constitution “there shall be a Deputy Governor who shall be a Belonger and shall be appointed by the Governor in pursuance of instructions given by Her Majesty through a Secretary of State and who shall hold office during Her Majesty’s pleasure”.
As the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Wynns will assist H.E. the Governor Richard Tauwhare in the exercise of his functions and shall such functions, not of a ministerial nature.
Her Excellency Wynns ascension to the post of Deputy of Deputy Governor follows her appointment to the post of Chief Secretary, the second Belonger to take up such a post.
H.E. Wynns is the second of two girls born to Richard and Henrietta Wynns on the island of Grand Turk on October 4th, 1948.
