| QC APPOINTED TO PSC CHAIR |
|
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands; Wednesday, July 22, 2008 - The
Office of Public Service Management had announced the appointment of Mr.
Eugene Otuonye, Q.C., as Chairman for the Turks and Caicos Public Service
Commission, effective July 14, 2008.
Mr. Otuonye, with 24 years of active legal practice in the private and
public sectors, has previously worked for 12 years in the public services of
Jamaica, Turks and Caicos and Montserrat. He is a former Turks and Caicos
Islands Deputy Attorney General and has acted as Attorney General on
occasion.
His most recent appointment was as Attorney General of Montserrat. While
there, he also acted in the position of Governor. During these
appointments, he advised extensively and decided on public service matters.
Born in Nigeria, Mr. Otuonye obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree
from the University of Nigeria in 1983 and went on to professional training
at Nigeria Law School and later at the University of the West Indies' Norman
Manley Law School.
He has been appointed to the coveted status of Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) of
Turks and Caicos Islands and is a Fellow of the Society for Advanced Legal
Studies, at the University of London.
His professional memberships include the International Bar Association, the
American Association of International Law, the International Association of
Prosecutors, the International Criminal Law Network, The Hague, the Jamaican
Bar Association and the Turks and Caicos Bar Association.
Mr. Otuonye's appointment follows last month's resignation of Dr. Linda L.
Williams, former PSC Chairperson.
