TCHTA DONATES ELECTRIC VEHICLE TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands;  Tuesday, August 4th, 2009  – On Friday, July 31st, the Turks & Caicos Hotel & Tourism Association (TCHTA) donated an EGO Cruiser to the Royal Turks & Caicos Islands Police Force  (RTCPF) to assist them with patrolling the Grace Bay area of Providenciales.

Caesar Campbell, CEO of the TCHTA in handing over the keys to the Police Department said: “Tourism is the mainstay of our island’s economy and it is important that we do whatever it takes to keep the island safe at all times.  As a result, the hoteliers felt it incumbent to assist the police in fighting crime and with the majority of the properties in Grace Bay we thought it vital to ensure that this area is always protected to keep visitors to our shores as well as residents from any harm.”

“We also know that there is pressure on the Police Department at this time, so it was only fitting that we make the contribution to the department that protects our people. I would like to thank Mac Motors for giving the association a discount on the purchase price.  It shows that when the private sector teams up, we are able to accomplish more than we would on our own.”

It is the association’s hopes that this donation will be a catalyst for other private sector organizations or individuals to make a contribution to the RTCIPF to assist in continuing their efforts to fight crime in the TCI.

In receiving the keys, Commissioner Hall noted that the “Grace Bay is an important area of activity for the country, being the hub of the tourism industry. The Police department is thankful to the TCHTA for donating the vehicle which will help to alleviate pressure on the resources of the department.” Commissioner Hall also noted that the Grace Bay police substation will reopen soon.
