GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Islands; Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 - The Governor, HE Gordon Wetherell, announced that the Disaster Recovery Board has approved the award of nine contracts to Turks and Caicos Islands-based construction companies to rebuild specific buildings in Grand Turk. The contract signing ceremony took place today at 12 o’clock in the conference room at the Department of Economics Planning and Statistics (DEPS) building in South Base, Grand Turk.
In keeping with a commitment to transparency, individual contract figures as tendered/agreed are shown below.
Disable Centre (Grand Turk) - Four (4) tenders responses priced between $70,785 and $174,949. The contract was awarded to AND Construction, Co. - $90,610.63
Dental Clinic (Grand Turk) - Eight (8) tenders responses, priced between $89,137 and $263,971. The contract was awarded to AND Construction Co. - $144,130.40
Resource Centre – TCICC (Grand Turk) - Six (6) tenders responses, priced between $10,228 and $26,354. The contract was awarded to AND Construction Co. - $12,974.61
Green Door Shelter (Grand Turk) - Four (4) tenders responses, priced between $47,015 and $118,718. The contract was awarded to AND Construction Co. - $81,498.73
Medical Clinic (Grand Turk) - Seven (7) tenders responses, priced between $93,040 and $218,043. The contract was awarded to Projetech - $174,808.28
DEPS Building (Grand Turk) - Four (4) tenders responses, priced between $67,368 and $169,578. The contract was awarded to Projetech - $147,544.75
EOC Building (Grand Turk) - Four (4) tenders responses, priced between $36,824 and $80,198. The contract was awarded to Projetech - $67,213.88
Common Room – TCICC (Grand Turk)- Six (6) tenders responses, priced between $23,600 and $52,613. The contract was awarded to Akin Contracting -$26,428.80
Distance Learning – TCICC (Grand Turk) - Five (5) tenders responses, priced between $36,608 and $72,168. The contract was awarded to Carib Construction - $54,809.53
The tendering process was opened on Friday 10th July at 10 am and lasted 3 days. The Committee evaluated all tender bids against various criteria. Subsequently project proposals were presented to the Disaster and Recovery Board for Approval. Members of the Board are Governor Gordon Wetherell, the Premier Honourable Galmo Williams, Pastor Vernon Malcolm, Honourable Arthur Robinson and Clive Stanbrook.
A further three invitations to tender went out to all pre-qualified contractors on Monday, July 20 for projects to construct pumping stations in Grand Turk and South Caicos.
Further projects relating to 36 buildings are awaiting Bills of Quantities from BCQS, the firm commissioned by the Recovery Task Force. Those 36 projects include shelters and schools across the Turks and Caicos Islands. There are: Two (2) in Salt Cay Caicos, four (4) in Middle Caicos, four (4) in South Caicos, six (6) in North Caicos, twelve (12) on Providenciales and eight (8) in Grand Turk.
