TCI’S MEDICAL FRATERNITY HOST COURSES FOR HEALTH CARE WORKERS
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands; Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 - From June 24th to June 28ththe Medical Association of the Turks and Caicos Islands organized Advanced Cardiac life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Courses for Health Care workers throughout the Turks & Caicos.

Hosted by Dr. Dawn O'Sullivan, Director of Training for the Medical Association, and Life Support Services Trainers, John and Mary Bovia, the training was very well received, allowing the doctors to practice resuscitation skills in the event of a pediatric or adult cardiac arrest.



For this course, a state-of-the-art US$30,000 mannequin who is able to mimic heart beats and rhythms as well as breathing which allowed the doctors to practice their practical skills of defibrillation and airway techniques.

This is not the first course held by the Medical Association as this team held training in 2005 and more are scheduled to take place in the very near future.

Dr. Ken Peterson, President of the Medical Association said that" "This training is essential to refresh our medical team and staff in the public and private domain for the relatively infrequent occurrence of end of life for children and adults who need emergency measures to be instituted to save life."

"As a Medical Association we are delighted that this expensive training can be delivered to us in Turks & Caicos rather than sending all members of staff off for specialized training off island" he concluded.”
