PROFILE: MRS. JACKURLYN CAMPBELL-SUTTON
GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Islands; Friday, May 15th, 2009 - Mrs. Jackurlyn Campbell-Sutton Registered Nurse/Midwife, Public Health Nurse recently completed the Master of Public Health (MPH) course at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, England.

Some of the key public health competencies of the MPH programme included:
  • The ability to critically analyse links between social, economic, biological and environmental determinants of health
  • o explore the social and political contexts of public health activity and policy, including health protection and ethical decision-making.
  • Population health and disease surveillance; and public health programme planning and management.
  • Research
Nurse Campbell-Sutton is the sixth child of Emanuel and Annis Campbell of Sandy Point, North Caicos, Turks and Caicos Islands. She is married to Sergeant Kirton Sutton and the couple has one son, six year old, Kirton Sutton JR.

Nurse Campbell-Sutton started her nursing career in November 1990. She won the ‘most outstanding theoretical student’ award while completing her General Nursing training at the Barbados Community College 1987 – 1990, where she also earned an Associates Degree in Nursing.

In 1994 Nurse Campbell-Sutton successfully completed a one-year course in Operating Theatre Techniques at the University Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica, and she received the award for ‘most outstanding project presentation’. She became a qualified Midwife in 1997, and in 2001 graduated with ‘Honours diploma’ in Public Health Nursing from the University of Technology, Kingston Jamaica.

Of her latest accomplishment Nurse Campbell-Sutton said “this was my most challenging academic experience, and I never would have made it without God on my side”. She is extremely grateful to her family and other loved ones for their support and prayers during her studies.

Nurse Campbell-Sutton served periodically as Ward and Operating Theatre Supervisor at the Grand Turk Hospital from 1997 and was appointed to the post of Ward Sister from April to August 2000. She went on to serve as Primary Health Care Manager from January 2002 to August 2007.

Nurse Campbell-Sutton was recently promoted to Chief Nursing Officer in the Ministry of Health. Nurse Campbell-Sutton remains dedicated to serving her country in her current capacity, and pledges to continue to strive for excellence in the nursing profession. She anticipates every success and blessings for her beautiful by nature country- the TCI.
