| CLEMENT HOWELL HIGH SNATCHES CROWN FROM MARANTHA IN THE 11TH ANNUAL HIV/AIDS INTER-HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE |
|
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands; Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 – Clement Howell High School of Providenciales captured the title of best debate team at the 11th annual HIV/AIDS Inter-High School Debate that was hosted by the National AIDS Programme.
Taking place at the Gustarvus Lightbourne Sporting Center in Downtown, Providenciales earlier today, the three-person team comprising of twin brothers Deangelo and Dimaggio Rigby and, Saskia Telfort, easily walked away with this years' title from seven time consecutive winner Marantha High- to win this years competition.
The competition was tough said Head Judge Kaydeen Miles, as all teams came prepared and delivered strong arguments as to the moot: Be it resolved that the church has a responsibility to empower society and to deliver more tangible support to education.
This annual event is a part of the World AIDS Day activities, which will be observed on Monday December 1st, under the theme: Take the Lead! Stop AIDS! Keep the Promise! Empower and Deliver!
The first debate saw Clement Howell beat out Whole Gospel Academy. In the second, New Age Academy bested Marantha High, knocking them out the running. The third and final debate was between Wesley Methodist and Raymond Gardiner High, seeing the latter win their argument.
Overall, Clement Howell High School came in first place, with New Age Academy of Providenciales in second, followed by the Raymond Gardiner High School of North Caicos in third.
Best speakers of the debates were Deangelo Rigby of Clement Howell High, Maya Hall, New Age Academy and Kenya Swann of Raymond Gardiner High.
