STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTER OF AVIATION, HON. GALMORE WILLIAMS
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands; Thursday, December 11, 2008- As Minister of Transportation, I would like to clarify the situation with Air Turks and Caicos and address some areas of Public concern.

The Civil Aviation Authority conducted a routine Operations record audit earlier this week and raised concerns about some operational matters.  These issues were related to pilot record keeping and in no way concerned aircraft equipment or maintenance.

The operator felt it best to address the concerns immediately and chose to voluntarily stop flying so as to meet with all staff concerned to review and implement new procedures as necessary.  Air Turks and Caicos have now written a report of these operational changes implemented to the Civil Aviation Authority.  They have been reviewed as satisfactory and air services have been resumed.

I would like to emphasize that the Authority has no concerns that the safety of the traveling public had been compromised by equipment or maintenance issues.

It is incumbent upon us to ensure that all air operators are keeping careful and accurate flight records so that a transparent system exists for proper oversight.

My Ministry will continue to play our part to ensure that our people are provided with the best and safest possible air transportation."
