GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Islands; Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - In accordance with S.32 (1)(2) of the Turks and Caicos Islands Constitution Order 2006, Premier and Minister for Tourism, Hon. Dr. Michael E. Misick, has advised H.E. the Governor, Gordon Wetherell to make nominal changes within two Ministries.
In respect of this, the department of Planning has now been removed from the portfolio of the Office of the Premier to be included in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Fisheries and the Environment, effective immediately.
Succeeding this amendment, the portfolio of said Ministry will include:
- Conservation
- Environmental and Coastal Resources
- Land Registry
- Survey and Mapping
- Land Valuation
- Fisheries
- Planning
Premier Misick indicated that name of the Ministry will remain The Ministry of Natural Resources, Fisheries and The Environment, and that Hon. McAllister Hanchell, will remain responsible for this Ministry.
The Premier then noted that he advised the Governor to remove the Civil Aviation Authority from the Office of the Premier portfolio, to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Public Safety - effective immediately.
Succeeding this amendment, the portfolio of this Ministry will include:
- Immigration
- Labour
- Fire Services
- Prisons
- Natural Disaster
- Registration of Births and Deaths
- Emergency Services
- Cadet Programme
- Coastal Patrol
- Search and Rescue
- Airports Authority
- Civil Aviation Authority
- Airline Transport and Licensing Authority
The new name of this Ministry will be The Ministry of Home Affairs, Public Safety and Aviation, and the Hon. Galmo Williams will remain responsible for this Ministry.
The name of the Premier¹s Ministry: Office of the Premier, Ministry of Tourism, Trade, Investment, and District Administration, will remain unchanged, and this Ministry¹s portfolio will now include:
- Commerce and Development
- Tourism
- District Administration
- T C Invest
- Tourist Board
- Government Information Service
- Broadcasting Commission
- TCI New Media Network
To that end, all other Ministries are to remain unchanged.
