BERMUDA REGIMENT PREPARE TO RETURN HOME
GRAND TURK, Turks and Caicos Islands; Monday, September 29, 2008 - Forty-three Bermuda Regiment soldiers and nine Parks Department personnel who arrived on Grand Turk on 16 September are preparing to return home today, Monday, September 29th, 2008.

The Regiment soldiers worked closely with the Department of Engineering & Maintenance Services and together focused on clearing, securing and repairing Government land and buildings on Grand Turk. Continuing on from the initial efforts and assistance provided by the Royal Navy, the Regiment helped to rehabilitate key civil service offices at the Government's South Base compound.

In thanking the Bermuda Regiment for their hard work and support, the Governor, Gordon Wetherell said: "The Bermuda regiment and their colleagues from the Parks Department have made a great contribution in helping restore a sense of normality to Grand Turk."

"Over a period of two weeks they have worked hard and effectively in clearing the island of debris and securing and repairing a range of key buildings and facilities encompassing Government House, the hospital, schools, the islands water supply and much more. Speaking on behalf of the entire TCI I want to thank them warmly for all their effort and the spirit of cooperation they have unfailingly shown and to wish them a safe journey home".
