The Governor is currently responsible for the government of the Turks and Caicos Islands, including the responsibilities of TCI ministers. His powers are subject to the Constitution of the Turks and Caicos Islands and other legislations, instruction of the British Foreign Secretary, and the scrutiny of Parliament in London.
To assist him, the Governor has appointed a Chief Executive as head of the public service. This job is currently held by Mr. Martin Stanley and starting in Octber 2009 will be held by Mr. Mark Capes.
There is an Advisory Council and a Consultative Forum which the Governor may consult.
The Governor has also appointed some experts to work in areas of concern highlighted by the recent Commission of Inquiry.
Mission Statement
The Governor's mission is to provide a clean break from the mistakes of the past and a fresh start for the Islands. This means putting the Turks and Caicos on a durable track towards establishing good governance, sound financial management, and sustianable development.
